What you need to know

Read on to make your "aquathon" experience, safe and fun!

What is an Aquathon?

Simply a swim followed by a run!

Enter on your own or a two person team with one swimmer and one whom runs.

At check in you will be provided with your event swim cap and time chip (a velcro time recorder worn on your ankle). You can opt to wear any suitable (wetsuits optional) swim and running attire.

Prior to the swim you place your 'run' gear in the change area and than head to the waters edge for a safety briefing and swim course explanation.

The swim starts on the sandy foreshore of Wollongong harbour, which is mostly protected from the elements, and safe for swimming. Lifesavers carefully monitor the swim and are on hand if needed.

Each event is further divided into age and gender groups for safety. Kids are kept close to shore with excellent supervision by our lifesavers.

Once the swim is completed, its time to run to the 'change area', swap goggles for joggers, and off you run...

There are 3 different run turn points depending on your event, with all events that finish on the sand on North Beach (800m from harbour). The run is mostly on cycle path and flat grass along the scenic coastline. At the finish hand in your time chip, grab a drink and refreshments and enjoy the reward of finishing,

Teams: the swimmer begins, then exits water and 'tags' (swap velcro timer worn on ankle) runner to finish the course. A team zone is set up.

Who Can Enter?

Entry is open to any individual or tag team. Refer to each event for minimal age categories.

Is it safe?

Whilst all events of this nature require a level of preparation and ability 'aquathon' is relatively achievable and mostly very safe. The swim is held in closed waters of Wollongong Boat harbour, lifesavers are present and the conditions are generally flat. The run is held on safe traffic free pathway, there is first aid, loads encouraging marshals and its NOT a race for most!

Parents...

We encourage you to support your child. Whilst all care and safety is taken so kids can take part own their own, if parents wish to follow and support their child(ren) that is fine. Please enter your name at registration.
